Prayer for the Floods

God of the waters and the flood,
You created a world for us
To know your love and peace
Yet amidst the beauty of creation
We encounter pain and hurt
And forces beyond our control.

At times like this, our hearts are shaken and ache with sorrow for the loss of life. Be close to all who live in fear and distress.

Give protection and wisdom to emergency service personnel.
Encourage our generosity to those who suffer loss.
In your mercy restore your creation and heal our land.

We pray for those who have been injured in body, mind or spirit and ask you to heal them;
we pray for those who have been left homeless,
Strengthen the hands and hearts of those who assist in relief efforts.

Grant us all firm resolve to stand with our neighbours who are in need, to love them and to offer our generous support to them in their time of need.
